Cody Connelly- Professional Career
Cody began his career in the world of custom-made motorbikes in 2001, while still in high school, when he joined the Orange County Choppers (OCC) in Orange County, New York. The OCC financed his tuition for his enrollment at AMI as part of his training and specialization. Cody became involved in the building project that quickly earned the nickname “The Cody Project” in 2003, shortly before the “American Chopper” reality TV show premiered on the Discovery Channel; the bike was shown at the 2003 Daytona Beach Bike Week and was featured in the sixth episode of the show’s first season.
Cody was also the primary assembler and fabricator on the Orange County Choppers’ “Old School” project, which was finally given to him as a gift by Paul Teutul Sr. and the Orange County Choppers.
Over the next several years, Cody found himself among the most popular characters of the show, alongside the key men – Paul Teutul Sr., the founder, owner, and CEO of OCC, and his son Paul Teutul Jr., who served as OCC’s chief designer, during the show, alongside Vincent ‘Vinnie’ DiMartino as one of the leading assemblers and mechanics, and due to his kind personality and good quality works.
However, after DiMartino left OCC in August 2007 to create his own custom motorcycle building company, Connelly also left OCC in October 2007 to join his buddy and former colleague in his newly founded V-Force Customs shop in Rock Tavern, New York. Their early creations included their debut chopper, “V-Force 1,” as well as a bespoke bike constructed for the Arena Football League’s Tampa Bay Storm squad in Florida. Cody spent the following few years at V-Force Customs before Vinnie decided to change the name of his shop and relaunch it as DiMartino Motorsports.
Connelly’s abrupt departure from OCC was followed by a series of contentious legal difficulties — he later sued OCC and Paul Teutul Sr. for unauthorized use of his likeness and trade name, as well as for fraud and breach of contract. According to reports, the above-mentioned “Old School” motorcycle, which was given to Cody as a gift, was later returned to the OCC and was never given to Connelly. However, the matter was settled and the charges were dismissed four years later, in 2011.
Cody Connelly has been in multiple episodes of the TLC spin-off reality television show “American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior” in addition to those already listed. Cody rejoined with DiMartino after the Teutuls split and Teutul Jr. left OCC to open his own custom bike shop, Paul Jr. Designs, and together they helped Paul Jr. develop his business.
Cody Connelly opted to leave the world of professionally manufactured custom choppers after these very tumultuous events and engagements and took a regular career with the local utility business, but he still performs some custom work in his own workshop on the side.
