A narrative about Colestein Veglin first surfaced in Newark, New Jersey, in the late 1800s. The story of the man is famed for having a horrifyingly long lifespan of 615 or 617 years! At the time of his death, that was reportedly the claimed number of years.

If you believe in conspiracy theories and myths about immortality, Colestin Veglin might not be a new name to you. And if such issues are on the table, Veglin does frequently steal the show. Except Biblical and mythical figures, he is arguably the strongest candidate among supercentenarians and may even be the only one.
Veglin comes to mind when people hear of really old people, especially those who are 110 years or older. Following Saturnino de la Fuente Garcia, it recently occurred.
He was a Spaniard who held the record for being the oldest person ever to have lived. Garcia was 112 years and 341 days old when he passed away.
Living over 110 has recently become common knowledge, yet hearing that some people have seen days beyond that still gives one the willies. However, was Veglin as old as he claimed to be, or even real? Read the report below to get the truth.
On July 20, 1876, The New York Times, a venerable news source, published an article that catalyzed the entire event. The relatively succinct rundown’s headline said,
According to the newspaper, police in Newark, New Jersey, detained “an insane man” on Thursday. The man reportedly informed the officers that his name was Colestein Veglin and that he was 615 years old immediately following the altercation.
The man also allegedly stated that he had six wives, all of whom were still alive, according to the NY Times. He claimed to have a large amount of property and that his residence was at 21 William Street.
A depiction of Colestein Veglin in bed with a relative shows him as the alleged 617-year-old Colestein Veglin
But that was what The New York Times and Veglin had to say about it.
Since that time, neither from one of the oldest news organizations nor from any other prestigious magazines has there been any follow-up. Veglin, though, was a completely fresh face even to the locals, according to some other word of mouth (though more from the perspective of the general public). It appears that no one knew who he had been before.
Nevertheless, there are a few unofficial sayings that assert Veglin passed away at the age of 617. It would have been two years since his aforementioned arrest. A written affirmation is the only item that was missing from this.
There are plenty of people who, if mythology is included, have supposedly lived across eras rather than just generations or centuries.
There are enough people in the Hebrew Bible (old testament) who have lived for an incredible 900 years. However, the aforementioned figure used lunar months rather than the year we use for calculating years. The 900 is translated to be slightly under 73 years, which, to be honest, isn’t worth the attention.
Other mythical characters, on the other hand, are rumored to have lived for tens of thousands or even millions of years, just like the actual years.
According to legend, Japanese monks and the spiritual masters of Hinduism and Jainism are the only people who have ever accomplished such a magnificent feat among mankind. They often lived for between 240 and 280 years. In terms of history, as it is known, that is as believable as it gets.
According to The Guardian, Sodimedjo of Indonesia passed away at the age of 146. In the Guardian
The death of Sodimedjo, who according to his documents was born in December 1870, was reported in May 2017 by The Guardian. At the time of his passing, the man known also as Mbah Ghoto or Grandpa Ghoto was 146 years old. He was now far older than everybody else who was still alive. His age, however, was unproven.
Colestein Veglin: Is He A Real Man?
According to testimony, Kirk Campbell of France is the oldest person to have ever lived in mythology or documented history. At the time of his passing, he had 261 years. Thomas Cam, a British man who lived to be 207 years old, is the second person on the list. The number of years is undoubtedly shocking.
The longest person to have ever lived, according to historically accurate records, was a Frenchwoman named Jeanne Calment, who passed away at the age of 122.
Was Colestein Veglin Able To Survive That Long; How?
It might be. Scientists have not been able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that historical characters lived long lives, but they have also not shown any evidence in favor of that theory either.
However, historians and scientists agree that people do have the capacity to live for hundreds or even thousands of years. According to some scientists, the first individual to live a thousand years could already be here.
He may or may not be Veglin. He may have lived for 600 years if not for some unusual biological occurrence in his body. Genetic experts do think that people could live that long or perhaps longer, but the likelihood is extremely remote—one in a quintillion. And there are instances where reality has outperformed all odds.
