The comedian Gareth Richards perished in a car accident. The former co-host of the Frank Skinner Show on Absolute Radio who was killed in a car accident on March 27 passed away on Friday.

His wife Laura stated in a statement that he sustained severe brain injuries and had to be removed from life support.

Jason Manford, a fellow comedian, expressed his devastation at learning of the loss of the “wonderfully inventive” comedian, age 41 while paying tribute to him.

The widow of Richard stated that their sons were “holding up well” and thanked the community for their support and kindness.

“Details on the funeral and other methods to honor Gareth’s memory will be forthcoming, as I know he was well-liked. “Currently, the loss is difficult to bear,” she added.

Since 2004, Richards had been a stand-up comedian, performing ten times at the Edinburgh Fringe and appearing on numerous BBC television and radio comedy programs.

He co-hosted Absolute Radio for two years alongside Skinner and Emily Dean.

Skinner cried live on air last week while discussing Richards, telling listeners that the show’s staff did not want to broadcast without mentioning his friend.

Skinner described Richards as a “fantastic bloke” and explained that he was scheduled for the program 14 years ago following a “terrible” pilot.

“We were unable to do it, so we invited Gareth Richards as a guest on the next one. He was fantastic on the show, so we asked him to host for the first few years.”

Since his death, colleagues and admirers in the comedy industry have paid tribute to Richards.

Emily Dean, his former co-host on Skinner’s program, remarked, “God, I will miss Gareth Richards – my hilarious, unfailingly kind, gentle, and beautiful friend. So appreciative to have known you”

Jason Manford described Richards as “kind and thoughtful,” while Rhys James called him a “joke-writing giant.”

Elis James wrote in his obituary,

“We began comedy at the same time, and I was in admiration of his talent, but more importantly, I was always struck by what a kind and gentle man he was. Simply an absolute pleasure to be around.”

Adam Kay stated that he was “indescribably saddened” by the comedian’s passing, adding that it was “almost a unique eulogy for a comedian when every single person they met says how kind and sweet they were.”

The Frank Skinner Show tweeted that they were “devastated” and will “greatly” Miss Richards.

They said,

“Tomorrow we will release a podcast of some of his best segments from our show.”
