The 16-year-old Cormick Scanlan passed away on Sunday in a hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota, three weeks after suffering a stroke that required immediate surgery to save his life.
The teenager was identified as having moyamoya disease after suffering his first stroke on December 6. The main blood veins entering the brain are blocked in this uncommon, progressive cerebrovascular disease.

He underwent bypass surgery on Thursday, the 15th, to repair the left side carotid artery using blood vessels from his head. Unfortunately, he later suffered multiple strokes, according to the hockey club.
