After a series of knee injuries put an end to his playing career with Rangers, Dundee, and Falkirk, Brown started management with Clyde in 1977.
Brown originally oversaw several of Scotland’s youth sides before being named manager of Scotland in 1993.
The longest term of any Scotland manager, he held the position until 2001. His sides competed in the FIFA World Cup in 1998 and the UEFA Euro in 1996.
Later, Brown managed Preston North End, Motherwell, and Aberdeen. He left management in 2013 and was appointed a non-executive director by Aberdeen.

The footballing world has been inundated with condolences after the devastating news that iconic former Scotland manager Craig Brown passed away after a lengthy illness.
Iconic Scottish football manager Craig Brown lost his fight with sickness and unfortunately died at the age of 82.
The former Scotland manager’s death at a hospital was reported on Monday.
After the devastating announcement, condolences flooded in. Before managing Scotland’s under-21 team, Brown began his head coaching career with Clyde.
After Andy Roxburgh resigned, he subsequently took over as the manager of the senior squad. He created history by leading them to Euro ’96 and secured a berth at the World Cup in France two years later.
It was Scotland’s final tournament appearance, but his squad still need assistance to get out of a group that included Brazil, Norway, and Morocco.
Brown returned to club management in 1999 after his term as president of the nation came to a close, managing for Motherwell and Preston North close.

The sad news was verified by the late manager’s family in a statement.
They said: “After a brief illness, Craig passed away peacefully today at University Hospital, Ayr, surrounded by beloved family members.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation for the excellent attention and care provided by the medical team as well as the countless expressions of support and sadness from friends and coworkers.
The family now asks that their privacy be respected while they are mourning at this difficult time.
Brown walked Scotland’s heroes onto the pitch in the opening World Cup match in France in 1998, lit tle over 25 years ago.

Brown was given the title of Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his achievements to fintball in the 1999 Birthday Honours.
Brown received an honorary Doctorate of Arts in 2001 from Abertay University.
From 1984 until his retirement in 2008, Bob, one of his two brothers, served as the pastor of Queen’s Cross Parish Church in Aberdeen.
Jock provided commentary for football games. Brown’s son, Craig Brown, plays for Stirling University in the Lowland League.
Brown was born in Glasgow, but his father traveled about for his work as a physical education teacher and then a senior adviser, so he and Brown’s two younger brothers were raised in Troon, Rutherglen, and Hamilton.
