It was revealed near the end of 2020 that Edgar-Jones had split up with her boyfriend, Tom Varey, due to their hectic schedules. The couple met in 2018 while filming Pond Life and dated for two years. During the lockdown, they shared a house, but after their divorce, the actress moved to North London to live with her parents.
“They got along incredibly well during lockdown last year,” a source told The Sun, “but they are both young and eager to advance their careers.”
They went on to say that the Normal People actress was overwhelmed with options and felt she needed to prioritize them. Her coworker was also an actor who took his job seriously. They eventually decided that what was best for both of them was to part ways. According to the source, the couple was dissatisfied with their inability to make their relationship work.
They remained close, however, and bore no grudges. Previously, the actress told Harper’s Bazaar UK about her romantic partner. “I did Normal People in Dublin when I moved into the flat.” My boyfriend came over and helped me move in. “And when I went out for a costume fitting, he went to Tesco and got a bunch of frozen food and stocked the fridge,” the actress explained.
