WeWoreWhat founder Danielle Bernstein was criticized online for promoting her bikini brand to collect money for Ukraine. The influencer recently announced the launch of her new bikini line on Instagram, noting that proceeds would be donated to crisis-affected individuals.
But, online people were unconvinced, feeling that the model was exploiting the tragedy for promotional purposes. The influencer had blogged about the introduction of her swimwear alongside a message expressing her views on the current situation.
The caption emphasized that one can simultaneously serve the world and delight in self-indulgence. The following was included in the post:
“I understand that publishing a photo of yourself in a bikini won’t help anyone, but do you know what will? The proceeds from this swim will benefit an organization on the ground in Ukraine.”
The post’s wording was questioned, causing Bernstein to change the caption. The revised caption stated that the organization was not new to her company. She stated that a portion of each WeWoreWhat launch’s proceeds was donated to various charities.
In addition, the captions mentioned that the company had previously contributed $250,000 to Ukrainian refugees and $5,000 to Global Empowerment.
With the postponed swimsuit debut, the influencer also offered a third payment. She posted a post excerpt and donation link on Instagram, generating an additional $15,000 in donations.
