The Palm Beach Central High School principal, Darren Edgecomb, does not appear to have ever been charged or arrested. Thus, the principal is not featured in a mug shot.
However, the state Education Department punished the principal in 2022 for altering many kids’ grades without the teachers’ consent.
At least eleven students’ grades were allegedly raised by them in 2019. The inspector general of the school district conducted an inquiry and found evidence of their acts.
As to the report, there are specific circumstances in which the state permits the modification of grades after report cards.
A teacher may request a grade adjustment and show justification, or the principal may alter a student’s grade without consulting them if approved by the regional superintendent.
Investigations, however, showed that Edgecomb’s management neglected to involve district administrators or teachers.
The principal and assistant principal consented to probation with the State Education Department in October 2022, years after the affair.
“I changed the student’s grades because there were additional factors where the teachers targeted the students,” according to what Greenberg allegedly said in their report.
“Teachers unfairly graded the students’ performance in class or did not accept the students’ class work,” he continued.
In 2022, Edgecomb and Greenberg reached a settlement with the Florida Department of Education, which came with drawbacks for Greenberg in particular.
As per the agreement, neither Edgecomb nor Greenberg acknowledge or refute the allegations. In addition, because Greenberg was the one who started the grade change at the time, his teaching license was suspended for a year.
Assistant Principal Darren Edgecomb Was Penalized for Being Expectant
As was already established, Darren Edgecomb has been a part of several scandals.
A local Florida newspaper, the Palm Beach Post, reported in May 2016 that Darrent Edgecomb was accused of discrimination by the U.S. Justice Department of Education.
It is alleged that during his tenure as principal at Turning Point Academy, he engaged in discriminatory behavior.
When Anne Williams Dorsey, an assistant principal, went on maternity leave in 2011, Darren allegedly penalized her with demotion and pay reduction.
A federal lawsuit was then filed by Anne against him. She said that a male administrator she trained and who lacked expertise took her post.
Dorsey claimed that when she was preparing to give birth to twins in a hospital, Edgecomb informed her that she had been demoted.
The Justice Department claimed that Edgecomb’s conduct was sexual discrimination and hence in violation of federal civil rights statutes.
Officials from the federal government asked the judge to force the county’s public education system to “implement appropriate and effective measures to prevent such action” in their lawsuit.
