Hunt contributed to the band’s five albums, beginning with If I Should Fall from Grace with God in 1988 and ending with Pogue Mahone in 1996. According to The Pogues, Hunt was seen carrying his guitar. They also made a reference to his song Love You ‘Til The End. According to the band:
“Darryl left London yesterday afternoon. Darryl Gatwick Hunt died on August 8, 2022, after being born on May 4, 1950. I know you’ve been waiting to hear me catch my breath / I’ll adore you until the end.”
The band’s leader, MacGowan, commented on Twitter:
“I am deeply saddened by Darryl’s death; he was a truly wonderful man, a fantastic friend, and a fantastic bass player. He will be missed by everyone.”
Spider Stacy, another band member, paid tribute to the late bassist, writing:
“This is abhorrent. I’ll see you around, Daz. ‘It’s in the fridge,’ says #TrickyTrees.”

Darryl Hunt was born in Hampshire, England on May 4, 1950. He graduated from the Nottingham School of Art with a BA in Fine Art. Before joining The Pogues in 1986, Hunt was a member of the pub rock bands Plummet Airlines and The Favourites. He was also a member of several other bands, the most notable of which was Pride of the Cross, which he formed with fellow Pogues members Dave Scott and Cait O’Riordan.
Before becoming a permanent member in 1986, Hunt worked on the band’s sound, driving, and tour management. He also made significant contributions to the band’s work, including the Christmas song Fairytale Of New York on their 1988 album If I Should Fall From Grace With God. A 1987 single starring Kirsty MacColl made its yearly return to the Official UK Singles Chart in December 2021.
Shane MacGowan was the leader of The Pogues in 1982. Pogue Mahone, which translates to “kiss my ar**,” was the band’s original name. In 1991, MacGowan left the band. The Pogues, on the other hand, continued with new singers such as Joe Strummer and Spider Stacy until 1996.
The band reformed in 2001 and toured extensively throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland before disbanding again in 2014. During the band’s active years, Hunt was a member. The band’s instruments included tin whistles, banjos, citterns, mandolins, and accordions.
