Even though the Vietnam War was at its height in 1968, Jim Heintz enlisted in the military at the age of 18. Before being dispatched to Vietnam to serve as security for a company constructing roads, he served in Germany.
He made the acquaintance of Thanh Thach, an 18-year-old “house girl,” while he was there, and the two engaged in sexual intimacy one weekend when the now-veteran of the army let her remain on the base.
Heintz left for the US in 1971 without realizing the girl was carrying their kid. The anguish he endured led him to make the decision never to return to Vietnam.
But he never forgot Thanh, and he included her in his scrapbooks. Jim’s second wife Jeri and their mixed family were shocked to learn that they had a daughter named Linh.
In 2017, the veteran’s youngest daughter Mikal used genealogy and DNA testing to discover her.
Jim and Jeri fought arduously to bring their newfound family member to the United States when her paternity was established. The new family member, her husband Ky, and their daughter Nhu were able to successfully migrate to Yakima, Washington.
They now value the times spent at family reunions and enjoy spending time as a mixed family.

Heintz was born in southern Vietnam in 1972. Her early years were difficult and filled with uncertainty. Her grandmother claims that after being discovered abandoned on the streets, she was adopted.
She had various difficulties and prejudice as a half-American kid growing up because of her American looks. The challenges she faced only became worse after the Vietnam War ended in 1975.
Due to her mixed origin, Linh was the target of harassment and violence by other students at school. She stopped going to school as a result of the stigma and prejudice she experienced.
She struggled to completely embrace her identity and feel a feeling of belonging under these tough circumstances.

Linh’s life, however, changed for the better when she fell in love with Ky, her next-door neighbor. They ultimately got hitched and started a combined business endeavor by starting a coffee shop.
Even though she was content, she still had a strong desire to look for her biological parents and learn more about her family history. Her grandmother’s revelation of the truth of her adoption in the 2010s prompted her to go through with her investigation into the matter.
during her half-sister Mikal, she was able to find Jim Heintz during her travels in 2017. Along with her father, Jeri, Jim’s second wife, entered her life as a result of their newfound bond.
With the arrival of two more half-sisters and two step-sisters, Linh’s family grew.
Within a year after reuniting with their long-lost relatives, Heintz, Ky, and their daughter Nhu were able to move to the United States with the aid of DNA testing and consulates.
They made their home in Yakima, Washington, and moved in with Jim and Jeri. Now that she and her siblings have grown closer, the family treasures the pleasure of spending time together.
Heintz has completely embraced the English language and finished an English Language Acquisition (ELA) program in her quest for a meaningful existence.
