David, who died at his house on St. Simons Island in Georgia, had a lasting impact on basketball. David Boyd, a former high school basketball coach from Georgia, is well-known within the athletic community.

Boyd, the oldest of three boys, grew up in Georgia. He was also an active member of Campbell High School’s basketball and football programs. Ultimately, he decided to pursue a coaching career and earned his first state championship with Campbell in 1982. Title after title followed, setting a standard for Georgia basketball that has yet to be exceeded. Unfortunately, David died in January 2024, leaving basketball fans to weep.

David Boyd’s Obituary and Cause of Death

David Boyd, 69, died of heart failure at his Georgia home, surrounded by his family. Notably, he had been struggling with Type 1 Diabetes for a long time. The ailment finally caused heart failure, which led to the coach’s death. He is also survived by his wife Genise, brother Cal, and four children, Charisse, Geoff, Christina, and Wesley.

Cal, his brother, is currently the head coach at Mt. Bethel in Georgia, carrying on his coaching lineage. However, David has left a vacancy in Georgia basketball that will be difficult to fill. He was the heart and soul of his squad, winning trophy after trophy while also setting standards for discipline and lifestyle.

Athletic fans were shocked and saddened by David’s death, which may have been due to his prominence. Tributes to the legendary coach and messages of support for his family have flooded social media. Cal, X’s brother, confirmed his death with an emotional speech reflecting on his contributions to the family and basketball.

“My older brother, David Boyd, went to be with the Lord today. He was a great mentor to many people. Today, the coaching world lost a legend! I enjoy all of our conversations over the years. “I already miss my brother so much!”

Cal, a two-time state championship coach, had a special relationship with the late David. A coaching-brother duo is as rare as they come in basketball. Needless to say, having a big brother like David to learn from helped Cal achieve his goals. To demonstrate his winning mindset and killer instinct, the current Georgia State Jonas Hayes coach made pleasant remarks.

“He is an amazing coach and disciplinarian. He is the epitome of a winner.”

Furthermore, Jermaine Sellers, a former Boyd player and current Kell High School head coach, disclosed David’s personality traits.

“He spoke on work ethic, responsibility, moral integrity, and how to respect people. Throughout my coaching career, he has always followed up with me, offered advice, and encouraged me.”

Unquestionably, David was a well-known instructor with unprecedented accomplishments. Above all, he inspired his family and the sportsmen that followed him.
