David Keith Lynch was born in Missoula, Montana, on January 20, 1946, and is a renowned screenwriter and filmmaker known for his somber and eccentric films with distressing themes.

He was born to Donald Walton Lynch, a research scientist for the United States Department of Agriculture, and Edwina “Sunny” Lynch, an English language instructor. Due to his father’s USDA responsibilities, David’s family was continually compelled to relocate across the United States.

At the age of two months, David Lynch and his parents moved to Sandpoint, Idaho. After two years and his brother John’s birth, the family moved to Spokane, Washington.

Spokane is where his younger sibling Martha was born. His family continued their nomadic existence by moving to Durham, North Carolina, Boise, Idaho, and finally Alexandria, Virginia. As opposed to others.

Before producing his first feature-length film, he created ‘The Alphabet’ (1967), a combination of animation and live-action, and ‘The Grandmother (1970), a short film consisting entirely of live-action. David’s first feature-length film, ‘Eraserhead,’ premiered in 1977.

The film was notable for its disquieting subject matter and surrealistic tone. Critics hailed the grotesque and nightmare film as an instant cult classic. His subsequent film, a biographical drama titled ‘The Elephant Man,’ was commercially successful. The movie was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including two for his direction and screenplay.

This film earned David Lynch his second Academy Award nomination for Direction. David directed the violent 1990 films ‘Wild at Heart’ as well as ‘Lost Highway’ (1997), ‘The Straight Story’ (1999), ‘Mulholland Drive’ (2001), and ‘Inland Empire’ (2006) during the 1990s.
