He eventually rose to the rank of Captain.

He served in France and North Africa during WWII. Because of his fluency in French, he also worked at the American Embassy in Paris. In 1946, Rockefeller joined the Chase National Bank family, led by his uncle. He was elected president of the bank in 1960 and served in that capacity until 1981.
