Joan Shannon, David Shannon’s wife, and I resided in Fayetteville. The late Army Major adopted his wife’s children, Elizabeth and Daisy, from her previous marriage after they wed in 1991.
Additionally, David and Joan had two kids. The family regularly moved due to Mr. Shannon’s job requirements.
Emergency call handlers got a troubling call from David Shannon’s wife on July 23, 2002. She called for an ambulance and said that her spouse had passed away.
When the police came, they discovered the Army Major nude and covered in blood on his bed, with the sheet pulled halfway up. He also had gunshot wounds on his breast and forehead.
David died as a result of a close-range shooting, according to the police. Additionally, Joan’s detectives discovered Elizabeth and her buddy listening to music in their room while the sons of the Shannon couple were found asleep there.
Elizabeth, David’s stepdaughter, allegedly inquired about his death while remaining composed. The investigator found a substantial amount of porn beneath the Shannons’ bed after examining the house.
Homemade pornographic photographs of Joan, David, and a family friend called Jeffery Wilson were found on the late Army Major’s computer.
Three guns were also discovered by the police inside the house, although none of them were considered to be murder weapons. Additionally, the house had no visible traces of a break-in.
Joan tested positive for gunshot residue, and Elizabeth disclosed her involvement. Mrs. Shannon was not the shooter, however, according to the pattern of gunshot residue.

Wilson said that the group would often get together for sexual activity. In addition, he said that Joan had become fond of him, but he was with her because she needed to co-sign for his motorbike.

Elizabeth was given a prison term of up to 31 years and 5 months. Her scheduled release date from the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women is 2029.
During her jail sentence, Elizabeth has already committed 49 infractions, ranging from fighting and theft to sexual assault.
Joan Shannon is now incarcerated and serving a life sentence. She is being held in the Polkton, North Carolina, facility known as Anson.
Authorities said that Joan killed her husband to cash in on a large life insurance payout and spend the rest of her days with Jeffery. Mrs. Shannon’s innocence is still maintained by David’s family, who assert that Elizabeth acted alone.
