Dawit Nega

According to Ethiopian news sites, famed Tigrigna musician Dawit Nega passed away on Sunday, June 12, at the age of 34. The singer-songwriter was reportedly temporarily hospitalized over the weekend before he passed away.

The musician, according to some local reports, was checked into Addis Hiwot Hospital in Addis Abeba. The Addis Standard continues by stating that Nega will have an autopsy, which will provide additional details regarding the circumstances of his passing. The musician was reportedly married and had a child, according to local Ethiopian BBC reporting.

Death Cause for Dawit Nega

According to regional reports, Dawit Nega was taken to the hospital on June 10 after displaying flu-like symptoms. The artist has reportedly been experiencing the symptoms since last Monday.

Nega reportedly received medical attention at Addis Hiwot Hospital’s default ward up until Saturday. The 34-year-old musician from Tigrigna allegedly entered the intensive care unit (ICU) on Saturday and passed away at 1 p.m. on Sunday. However, according to some accounts, he passed away in the evening, about 7 o’clock.

The Addis Standard reported that the famous person used glucose to relieve his pain at home. His blood sugar level was already high when he was rushed to the hospital, so this could have made it worse.

Dawit Nega developed pneumonia while being treated in the hospital. His blood’s increased glucose levels are most likely to blame for this. Healthline, a medical website, reports:

“High blood sugar levels associated with diabetes may also make it more challenging for your body to combat pneumonia once it develops.”

Insulin resistance is common among diabetics, who also frequently experience respiratory problems like asthma, pneumonia, and even pulmonary collapse, which can be fatal.

Additionally, they run the danger of getting respiratory conditions including COPD and pulmonary fibrosis (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease).

The fact that reliable sources have not confirmed if Dawit Nega had chronic diabetes his entire life should be noted. His family anticipates finding out more information regarding the cause of his death after the autopsy.

Overview of Dawit Nega

Nega was mercilessly abandoned when he was ten years old, according to the local newspaper. The young Mek’ele native was consequently compelled to hawk consumables on the streets in order to survive. At the age of 15, Nega joined the Circus Tigray show business to further his musical interests.

Nega was well-known for his own songs as well as his Coke Studio duet with Mo Farah for his Tigrigna song, which helped take the local Tigrayan music scene global.

For his creations like Daamena, Wozamai, Kadu Tsabaya, and Chocolate, among others, Nega was also acknowledged as an artist.
