According to event authorities, a 51-year-old man passed away during the weekend while competing in the Ironman Wisconsin triathlon. Race officials reported the death of a competitor during Sunday’s IRONMAN Wisconsin triathlon on Facebook. According to a GoFundMe page established to support his wife and kids, the guy was identified as Dax Bakken.

He was a military veteran who took part in Operation Desert Storm and was the father of three children. Bakken passed out close to the village of Cross Plains during the race’s bike leg, according to IRONMAN Wisconsin officials.

After receiving care from a race official and an off-duty police officer, EMS transported him to a nearby hospital, where a race spokeswoman subsequently pronounced him dead. Dax Bakken’s funeral arrangements and obituary will soon be made public by his family.
