He worked as the Botswana government’s deputy secretary for legislative drafting from 2002 until his retirement in 2010. At the ripe old age of 86, Mr. T and his son started a consulting business where they helped the government of Botswana establish the Law Reporting Unit.

He persisted in being actively engaged in educating law reporters up to his dying on February 22. Mr. T was described by his colleagues as a “walking encyclopedia of the law.”

He also had the unique distinction of being the only attorney in Botswana to have had the honor of serving under each of the four Presidents in office at the time. The highlight of his professional career was when he received the Government of Botswana Presidential Award in 2011.

The judo world is in grief after the untimely death of Emmanuel Tetteh, President of the Ghana Judo Association (GJA), earlier this month.

IJF President Mr. Marius Vizer stated, “It is with great regret and astonishment that the judo family got the news of the tragic departure of Mr. Emmanuel Tetteh, President of the Ghana Judo Association. Everyone will recall President Tetteh’s dedication to judo’s expansion and the promotion of its values in Ghana and beyond Africa.

On behalf of the whole judo community, Mr. Vizer sends his deepest sympathies to President Tetteh’s loved ones, friends, the Ghana Judo Association, and the larger Ghanaian judo family.

Details of Emmanuel Tetteh’s Biography Unveiled

Before pursuing his studies in the United States and subsequently, at Oxford, where he earned a master’s in law, Emmanuel Tetteh was born, reared, and educated in Ghana.

He passed the Middle Temple Bar Exams in 1959. Tetteh spent most of his career working as a lawyer and government official, first in Ghana from 1959 to 1962 and then in the United States from 1967 to 1978 when he was the Ghana Law Reports’ first editor.

At the same time, he also gave a lecture on the interpretation of legislation at the University of Ghana in Legon. Tetteh picked Botswana and the Fiji Islands as his workplaces when the Commonwealth Secretariat employed him in 1978.

For the balance of his career, Tetteh was employed by the Attorney-Chambers General, first as a major legal draftsman from 1978 to 1987, then as a senior assistant and editor of the Botswana Law Report from 1982 to 1993 and from 1987 to 2002, respectively.
