Deborah Divine | Husband Eugene Levy | Married Life

Deborah Divine

Deborah Divine manages productions, writes screenplays, and produces. However, she is more well-known for being the spouse of American Pie series star Eugene Levy. After more than forty years of marriage, Eugene and his wife Divine have two children together: Sarah and Dan Levy.

Recently, Divine’s partner was in negotiations to play the role of Johny Rose in the adored Canadian sitcom and worldwide Netflix sensation Schitt’s Creek, which stars Tim Rozon and Catherine O’Hara. Ms. Eugene, the actor’s wife who was born in Hamilton, may not appear on the show, but, arguably, it wouldn’t have been possible without her.

She is, in a way, the unsung hero of motherhood and wifehood. It’s also possible to argue that Divine’s contributions to show business are little. Despite not being as well-known or identifiable as her spouse or kid, she nevertheless makes an approximately equivalent contribution to the same industry.

Even though Deborah is the less well-known Eugene family member, she is also a skilled producer and occasionally humorous Twitter woman. Read on to learn more about her background, life before she met her bushy-brow spouse, their relationship, and other details.

Deborah Divine Is A Singer’s Daughter

On August 6, 1959, Deborah Divine was born in Canada. Patricia’s daughter Divine was raised in a Protestant home. She is 63 years old as of 2022.

Her mother Patricia was a vocalist who sang in the 1940s at the Royal Conservatory; nothing is known about her father. She also attended the opera class taught by Ernesto Vinci.

What Is Deborah Divine’s Line of Work?

The longstanding spouse of Eugene, Deborah is primarily a writer and is well-known for having scripted the Canadian-American comedic series Maniac Mansion in the 1990s.

Between 1990 and 1993, it was broadcast on YTV and Family Channel. She also produces several TV shows, such as Gruber, Higgins Boys, and Another World.

The writer, who was born in Canada, has also made significant contributions to the American soap operas Sunrise Bay, Another World, and Search for Tomorrow.

Her credits also include Gruber and the brief runtime sketch series The Higgins Boys. She has also contributed behind-the-scenes work to the movie The Edge of Night. Furthermore, although Divine didn’t feature in any of the episodes of Schitt’s Creek, she did function as the show’s creative consultant.

Relationship Between Deborah and Eugene Levy, her husband

In July 1977, Divine, who is currently sixty-two years old, wed SCTV star Eugene Levy.

Despite being married for more than 40 years, neither pair has shared a lot of information about their previous relationship. All that is known, though, is that they had some challenges when attempting to cement their union.

At the time, Deborah was a protestant, and her then-fiance was Jewish, therefore it was difficult to get a religious minister to approve of the marriage of such a couple.

Nevertheless, they selected Abraham Feinberg, a rabbi, to perform their marriage ceremony. Divine claims that marrying a Jewish man was the best decision she has ever made for her Protestant family on her union with the Emmy-winning actor.

It is said that the couple began dating in 1973. Eugene was just joining the Second City Toronto cast at the time. In addition, he had appeared in the movies Cannibal Girls and Foxy Lady.

He also had a brief affair with Catherine O’Hara, Schitt’s Creek costar, during this same period. Divine and the American Pie actor would marry in 1977, four years later, apparently in front of 300 guests.

The Offspring of Deborah Divine and Eugene Levy

Dan Levy was Deborah and her husband’s first child, born six years after they were married. In 1986, the writer and the couple who created the show welcomed Sarah Levy into the world as their second child.

Dan Levy, the son of AD Divine and her spouse, was named after the 1973 Elton John song Daniel. The Grammy winner and the singer’s daughter have two children who are now accomplished in their jobs.

Both of them are performers, albeit the son is the more well-known. Dan continued to play the father-son role Deborah’s husband had in real life on Schitt’s Creek.

Sara Levy, her daughter, is well-known for her roles in the movies The Surrealtor, Cheaper By The Dozen 2, and SurrealEs. Sara played Twyla Sands, the proprietor of Cafe Tropical, in Schitt’s Creek as well.

Deborah, their mother, claims that supporting her children in everything and being loyal to them was her priority, even though she has worked on a few television shows for many years.

Deborah and her spouse were devoted only to their children.

In a January 2019 interview with People, the Levy couple acknowledged that they were very severe with their children, Dan and Sarah. Divine and her husband clarified that the purpose of their tight ship was to keep the two aspiring Schitt’s Creek actors out of trouble.

They also sought to guarantee that Dan and Sarah understood the need for self-control. They also didn’t want them to enter the entertainment industry. The couple asserts that their children ultimately benefited from the strict atmosphere. Except their desire to prevent their children from becoming actors.

She was there for her son when he came out.

Despite the difficult circumstances in which Mrs. Levy and her husband reared their son and daughter, it was the former who emerged as a significant figure following her son’s coming out as gay.

Therefore, in May 2020, during an interview with Marc Maron for the WTF podcast, Dan recalled that his mother, Deborah, had consoled him and made things much simpler.

Dan told Maron, “We were having lunch when she just asked, and I said yes.”

He continued, saying that his mother was understanding, and asked whether he wanted her to tell his father, to which he replied in the affirmative. At that time, the Jr. Levy was still an adolescent.

The screenwriter told her husband after she had spoken with her son. Eugene went on to tell his son that nothing had changed and that he loved him. Dan acknowledges that he came out as gay when he was eighteen.

Deborah Divine Retaliated Against Her Son’s Tormentors

Less than a day before Divine’s son Dan was scheduled to anchor Saturday Night Live in February 2021, the mother of the actor and producer took to social media to kindly celebrate her son.

Deborah specifically used Twitter to criticize the bullying campers from her son’s early years who used to ruin his life.

“This is a tribute to the cruel individuals at Camp WTF who, in the summer of 1996, caused a certain cabinmate’s life to be unbearable simply because he was unique.” I have just seven words for you after all these years: “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!”

The mother of two was tweeted.

How Wealthy Is Eugene Levy, Her Husband?

Even though he is not one of the high earners or extremely wealthy people in Hollywood, Mrs. Divine’s husband, Eugene Levy, is nevertheless a multimillionaire performer.

He has been involved since the late 1960s and is today valued at more than $30 million. The figure puts him on the list of wealthy veteran performers if nothing else.
