Derek Chauvin, did you know George Floyd?

Derek Chauvin worked several jobs while serving as a police officer in Minnesota. He briefly worked in real estate and also worked as a bouncer at El Nuevo Rodeo, a Latin nightclub. Maya Santamaria, the club’s former owner, revealed that George Floyd also worked for the same club, but in a different location. George worked at the club until at least last year.

Despite working for the same owner, they never had the slightest chance of running into each other. Furthermore, the previous owner complained about Derek’s treatment of African-American customers. She mentioned several times that she had spoken with him about his actions.

And as she watched the video of him collapsing on George Floyd, she was taken aback. Derek Chauvin is on suicide watch, has been arrested, and is facing charges.

Following Derek Chauvin’s racist encounter with George Floyd, George Floyd died as a result of police brutality, particularly in the African-American community.

Derek was shown kneeling on George’s neck for 8 minutes 46 seconds, with the latter facing down on the ground, in a degrading video released on the day of the murder. Despite George’s expression of difficulty breathing, Derek ignored his request, eventually killing the man in the same position.

Protests for George’s justice erupted in major cities across the United States soon after his death, beginning in Minneapolis. Following the civil unrest, Derek Chauvin and all three of his partners were fired.

On May 29, 2020, Mike Freeman, a Hennepin County Attorney, announced that Chauvin was charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. Following his arrest, he was detained at the Hennepin County Jail. He was transferred to an Oak Park Heights Department of Corrections facility just hours later.

TMZ reported that he was put through an unclothed body to look for hidden contraband immediately after his arrest. They put him in a single cell and kept a close eye on him. The room also had cameras that were watching him 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with officers monitoring the feed.

Many people confirmed that the circumstances were simply a standard procedure that had to be followed. Other officers, however, confirmed that they were keeping a close eye on him for possible suicide attempts.

Derek’s first court appearance was set for June 6, 2020.
