Michael Freund Is Taken into Arrest And Accused of Murder
Dexter Perkins, 37, of Glen Ellyn, was shot and killed. An Aurora man is accused of first-degree murder in connection with this incident.
In unincorporated Wheaton, Michael Freund, 49, is accused of killing Perkins on Friday morning outside Rosie O’Reilly’s bar following a dispute that reportedly started over a bar tab and pizza.
Police were called to the pub at 0N131 Gary Ave. at about 8:40 a.m. in response to a report of a shooting. When they got to the scene, Perkins was already gone.
Perkins and another man allegedly got into a “scuffle” outside the bar, according to the prosecution.
A video that was shared with Patch shows two males fighting and possibly arguing on the front terrace outside of Rosie O’Reilly’s.
A third man, who appears to be Freund, tells the other two to “stop,” and he proceeds to fire two rounds into the air with what appears to be a handgun.
Perkins “began to get aggressive” with the three men while he was buying drinks for everyone in the pub, not realizing who they were.
The prosecution said that Perkins delivered the pizza that Freund and his associates had placed an order for to his bar seat.
Following that, Freund and his associates left the tavern to retrieve a handgun from Freund’s car.
When Perkins and the other three men went back inside the pub, they went outside onto the deck. There, Perkins got into a battle with one of the other men that once included dancing.
Perkins stepped forward to face the other man after hearing the warning shots. Freund then allegedly opened fire, hitting Perkins in the face and torso, according to the authorities.
