Professional Career

Stewart gained notoriety as a Soca musician. Soca music, nicknamed the “Soul of Calypso” by its founder Lord Shorty, is a genre whose rhythms have been influenced by African and East Indian music.

It originated in Trinidad and Tobago in the early 1970s and grew into numerous versions throughout the 1980s and beyond. Blaxx was born in Trinidad and Tobago.

When chatting with Trinidad Express, Destra Garcia, a fellow artist, recalls a number of enjoyable experiences shared with him.

She noted that Stewart was one of the most beloved Trinidad and Tobago-born performers. Stewart told The Guardian in 2013 that he did not achieve success until Kurt Allen of the Roy Cape All-Stars requested him to join the group.

He stated that he had never been affluent and that he utilized the same footwear for basketball and music. Despite experiencing financial hardships as a child, he remarked that he was grateful for his poverty and wished that others could be similarly inspired.

Stewart began his work as a mechanic while growing up in Penal, Point Fortin, Siparia, Trinidad, and Tobago. His father was a musician, and his mother wrote his first calypso. Stewart’s debut single, titled Dutty, was released in 2007.

He was mentored by prominent local performers such as Ronnie McIntosh, Ester Dyer, Destra Garcia, and Olatunji Yearwood. He even provided a platform for emerging artists such as Erphaan Alves, Sekon Sta, and Teddyson John.
