The Devil’s Slide, where the disaster occurred, is notorious for its history of mishaps and fatal collisions, according to officials.
Patel was inside the car when it crashed off the cliff along with a mother and two kids.
Fortunately, the two kids were unharmed, and Dharmesh and the wife only suffered minor wounds.
The four people within the wreckage were found and rescued more afraid than hurt, according to the rescuers.
Authorities now believe that Dharmesh Patel, the driver, intentionally drove the car off the cliff to commit murder-suicide, which has turned the case on its head.
According to California authorities, Dharmesh Patel, a resident of Pasadena, has been detained for attempted murder and child abuse.
Whether or not the Tesla was in autopilot mode needs to be made clear. But the accident’s circumstances suggested that Dharmesh intentionally steered the automobile off a cliff.
At The Devil’s Slide, a hazardous location on a seaside route, the car overturned. No names have been released for the woman or the two children.
Also unknown is the woman’s and the children’s relationship with Dharmesh. The accident’s nature and origin are yet unknown.
The other passengers in the car, according to the charging documents, were a 41-year-old lady and two kids, a boy and a girl, both under the age of four.
CHP investigators conducted witness interviews and sought to collect data from the incident. According to the preliminary inquiry, an intentional act was the incident’s most likely cause.
Indian-born Dharmesh Patel currently resides in Pasadena, California. He was taken into custody at 9 p.m. on January 2 and did not object.
What’s become of Dharmesh Patel?
Dharmesh Patel was getting medical attention right now for injuries he sustained in the car accident on January 2, 2022.
After being discharged from the hospital, he will be sent to the San Mateo County Jail where he has been booked for attempted murder and child abuse.
On January 3, the California Highway Patrol declared that Patel was being detained but would first receive medical attention.
Once his condition is stable, Patel, who was hurt in the 250-foot fall, will be put behind bars.
The situation is still under investigation, according to California Highway Patrol, and no other information has been disclosed.
The Tesla ran off the road by more than 250 feet and hit a rocky protrusion.
A few times it flipped before coming to rest against the cliff on its wheels and a few feet from the river’s surf.
To lower the firefighters down the Devil’s Slide, the rescue team rigged up a rope system from the highway.
Everyone was startled when other firefighters who were observing the car collision through binoculars noticed movement inside the vehicle.
The car’s doors were wedged shut after being damaged by the cliff. Firefighters had no choice but to use “jaws of life” gear to cut open the door to free the victims.
Fortunately, the rescue operation was successful; both children recovered without incident, and the two adults only suffered minor injuries.
