Diana Lovejoy: Where is Diana Now?

Diana Lovejoy is a convicted prisoner. Lovejoy sprang to attention in late 2016 after plotting to murder her then-estranged husband, Greg Mulvihill, as well as a firearms instructor and former marine, Weldon McDavid. In September 2016, Lovejoy and McDavid, an ex-couple who was having an affair, plotted to murder Mulvihill.

Diana Lovejoy’s Parents: Who Are They? Her Early Years And Job Prior To Jail

While little is known about Diana’s parents or lineage, it is believed that her great-grandmothers were Native Americans. Diana Lovejoy, who is now 50 years old, was reportedly born on October 26, 1972.

Lovejoy was born in Carlsbad, California. Before enrolling at UCDAI (the University Of California At Davis), the former triathlete and software technical writer completed high school and college.

She took a job as a technical writer at Nokia after graduating from university. People described her as someone who understood how the modern world used various technologies.

Lovejoy’s web presence was substantial, in addition to being a great business employee. Diana was also a fitness teacher and YouTube sensation who shared her weight loss journey on social media.

She used to provide videos of simple dishes. Diana, in fact, initiated an effort called “The Eating Plan” in 2010.

This approach assisted diabetics in maintaining their blood sugar levels. She also suggested some food planning for this.

What Really Happened When Diana Lovejoy Planned To Kill Her Husband?

It was September 1, 2016. McDavid allegedly called Mulvihill and purported to be a private investigator with damaging material against him.

He informed Lovejoy’s husband that the evidence would be left on a pole along an isolated dirt path off a road in Carlsbad, California. Mulvihill then took a flashlight and his son’s mini-baseball bat, enlisted the help of a neighbor, and set out on the empty trail.

Mulvihill and his neighbor arrived and heard a rustle in the bushes, saw the barrel of a rifle, and then witnessed the flash of gunfire. Mulvihill was shot in the side but survived.

Greg Mulvihill, Diana’s ex-husband, lived.

The bullet missed the light in Greg’s outstretched palm, striking him under his left armpit and exiting through his back. Authorities were able to piece together the scheme after the shooting.

Investigators discovered surveillance video of Lovejoy purchasing the burner phone McDavid used to contact Mulvihill.

They also discovered the AR-15-style firearm used to shoot Mulvihill in McDavid’s garage.

According to authorities, Lovejoy devised a scheme to pay McDavid $2,000, and she drove him to the scene of the shooting.

The Jury saw security footage of Diana purchasing a Tracfone from a Best Buy store on August 15, 2016. Weldon called Greg on September 1st using the same phone.

McDavid’s DNA was also discovered at the scene of the shooting. He later admitted to urinating in the woods. Weldon had defecated in a bush and wiped his bottom with a towel. The piece of cloth was later used by police to extract his DNA.

Who Was Guilty in the Diana Lovejoy Trials?

During the two-week trial in Vista, California, lawyers for Lovejoy and McDavid maintained in court that there was never any plan to murder Mulvihill. Despite the fact that McDavid fired several bullets at him, one of which struck him in the side.

Diana’s extramarital boyfriend testified in his own defense, claiming that if he had wanted to murder Mulvihill, he would not have missed.

“I could hit that person – center mass – from 100 yards away without any problem,” the California instructor testified. He further stated,

Mr. Mulvihill would have been dead if I had wanted to kill him…. My only hope is that on appeal, this will be corrected.

A few individuals suggested Weldon couldn’t have missed it from that close range, but the jury wasn’t convinced.

McDavid went on to say that he only chose to kill Mulvihill when Lovejoy said her estranged husband had been abusing their son. However, no evidence of such abuse was presented in court. Diana, with sad eyes, informed the Judge that she would never consider taking her son’s father away from him.

One son’s mother expressed hope that “the higher reality of what we intended to do comes out, and I believe it will somebody,” but did not specify what that “higher reality” was.

What Did the Jury Say?

Nonetheless, all of the jurors agreed that there was no disagreement. On September 1, 2016, about 11 p.m., McDavid pulled the trigger and shot Greg Mulvihill on a dark dirt lane in Carlsbad.

Reed, one of the jurors, stated that the defense they were presenting did not appear reasonable and seemed too far-fetched for what actually occurred. One juror stated that testimony from Lovejoy’s aunt was one of the most compelling pieces of evidence. Lovejoy had asked her a year before the shooting whether she knew somebody who could threaten or murder her husband.

Furthermore, McDavid had assisted a different Carlsbad woman, Crystal Harris, two years prior to the shooting incident. She had also made heinous accusations against her husband. Co-defendant Weldon McDavid Jr. was eventually convicted guilty on all charges and allegations, including attempted murder, by the jury.

The court convicted Weldon McDavid and Diana Lovejoy guilty in November 2016 in connection with a bungled murder-for-hire plot against the latter’s ex-husband.

After hearing his verdict, the former closed his eyes, buried his face in his hands, and sobbed in front of his family.

McDavid admitted that he regretted cheating on his wife more than the crime that landed him in prison. He is currently serving a 50-year to life term at the California Institution for Men in Chino. Lovejoy, his former lover, on the other hand, was sentenced to 26 years to life in prison. The court also ordered both of them to pay Greg $500,000 in punitive damages.

Lovejoy fainted in a Vista courtroom after hearing the verdict of her conviction. Judge Sim von Kalinowski quickly exited the courtroom so that the recently convicted defendant may receive medical treatment.

Later, Fox 5 reporter Jamie Chambers, who was also a lifeguard and emergency medical technician, assisted Lovejoy on the floor until help arrived.

Greg’s ex-wife had passed out, but she was conscious when he left her side, according to Chambers. He speculated that Lovejoy had lost consciousness owing to shock. The court resumed after paramedics brought her to the hospital.

Why did Diana Lovejoy attempt to murder her husband, Greg?

Diana’s hostility toward her ex-husband is thought to have begun after they became parents to a son.

The pair eventually chose to divorce, and it turns out that the separation terms were one of the key reasons that drove the Carlsbad native to plan and murder her ex-husband, Mulvihill.

Lovejoy and Greg Mulvihill were also fighting for custody of their young son, a legal battle that included allegations of violence and drug usage.

It was coming to an end, with the ex-couple receiving shared custody and an agreement for Lovejoy to pay Mulvihill $120,000. According to some sources, Lovejoy was dissatisfied with their 50-50 custody arrangement and having to pay Mulvihill $120,000. The jury forewoman further stated that the ex-wife refused to share custody and refused to pay $120,000 to her husband.

As a result, she hired her ex-lover, McDavid, to “eliminate the problem,” Carlsbad Police Department Sgt. Darbie Ernst told PEOPLE in an interview. Lovejoy was scheduled to pay the money a few weeks after Mulvihill was murdered.

Diana allegedly met her ex-husband Greg on a dating website in 2005. They married two years later and had their only child, a son, in 2012.

During their marriage, they had a major schism. Diana, for example, accused Greg of drugging and raping her while she was asleep in 2014. She’d even obtained a restraining order against her ex-husband.

Lovejoy met McDavid at the shooting range Iron Sights in Oceanside, where he worked. McDavid, as previously stated, is a former California weapons instructor.

McDavid testified in court that he met Diana Lovejoy in 2015 while working at an indoor shooting range. They then became friends with benefits.

Diana has been at the Women’s Prison in Chowchilla since February 2018 and may be eligible for release in 2036.
