TMZ originally reported that Hollywood legend Dick Van Dyke lost control of his vehicle and smashed into a gate on Wednesday morning.
The 97-year-old is reported to have lost control of his Lexus on the recently flooded streets of Malibu, California.
Bloodied and bruised, the Mary Poppins star appeared to have sustained only “minor injuries,” according to the police.
He was treated by medics at the site before being transported home by a friend.
According to police authorities, neither drugs nor alcohol is believed to have contributed to the collision.
Because of his near-centenarian status, officers reportedly submitted paperwork to the Department of Motor Vehicles for him to retake his driving test.
Dick Van Dyke’s Hollywood film, television, and stage career spans over seven decades. His awards include the Golden Globe, Tony, and Grammy.
Although Van Dyke’s career peaked in the 1960s, when he featured in Bye Bye Birdie, Mary Poppins, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, he was the oldest participant to ever participate in Fox’s The Masked Singer.
This is not the first near-miss for the actor. In 2013, he was rescued from an automobile on a California freeway that was on fire. He sustained no significant injuries.
Afterward, he sarcastically posted a photo of the destroyed vehicle with the message “Old Jaguar for sale VERY CHEAP!!
In an interview with Craig Ferguson in 2010, the then-84-year-old man described a time when he drifted out to sea after falling asleep on his surfboard.
In an incident that could have been removed from Mary Poppins: Beach Vacation, he reported that a group of friendly porpoises assisted him in getting his board closer to the shore.
