Diezel is a Howard University undergraduate. Musician Keri Lewis is his father.
His father Keri was a founding member of Mint Condition when he encountered Braxton while on tour. They fell in love, and in 2001 they were wed. But after 12 years, they got divorced. In the episode “Surviving Divorce with Toni Braxton” of The Red Table Talk, Braxton discussed her traumatic divorce and revealed the real cause behind it.
She hated divorce and everything related to it, according to Braxton. She hated having to admit defeat. It’s not that they weren’t trying. After their divorce, they reestablished contact in an attempt to keep their bond intact.
They were upbeat. They dated for between one and a half and two years following the split. She claimed that because she and her ex-husband had separated over money issues, Braxton felt superficial.
Braxton received a lupus diagnosis in 2007. Due to financial constraints, she was forced to postpone the performance, which she blames in part for the breakdown of her marriage.
They were coworkers and part of a family business, so if she wasn’t working, he wasn’t either. She recalls Lewis visiting her in the hospital later that day or perhaps the day after when she wasn’t feeling well. Diezel Ky Braxton would assume he was delayed because of her condition. She said as she started crying,
She felt uneasy about it and always thought that if she weren’t ill, she’d work and there would never be a financial shortfall. Diezel Ky Braxton, on the other hand, has no animosity toward him because they co-parent their two lovely children and share festivals and important occasions, like Thanksgiving and Christmas. She viewed her 12-year union with him as a triumph.
When Diezel was three years old, he received an autistic diagnosis. His mother claimed in her autobiography, “Unbreak my heart,” that God was punishing her for sins she committed more than ten years prior with autism.
When she was in her early 30s, she had an abortion after learning she was impregnated by her ex-boyfriend Lewis. Despite having strong feelings against abortion, she never thought she’d be forced to make a choice. As a result of her religious upbringing, she ultimately came to a heartbreaking conclusion, as she wrote in her book.
The first wrath was quickly followed by another strong emotion, remorse. She expressed in her heart that she felt she had taken a life, an action she dreaded God may punish her for.
She was conscious of having killed someone, and she believed God had chastised her by giving her child autism. In a 2016 interview, Braxton stated that Diezel, then 13 years old, had been cured of autism and now shows no signs of the condition. She also stressed how early diagnosis contributed to her son’s transformation.
