The politician has kept his religious affiliation a secret. He could be an Orthodox Christian since he was born to Greek-American parents. In the early 1980s, Vallas started his work as a budget analyst for the City of Chicago. Later, he worked for Mayor Richard M. Daley as the chief of staff and budget director for the city. When Vallas became the CEO of the Chicago Public Schools in 1995, he oversaw notable increases in graduation rates, test scores, and student performance.

Vallas had executive posts in the school systems of Philadelphia, New Orleans, and Bridgeport, Connecticut after leaving the Chicago Public Schools. He was a contender for mayor of Chicago in 2019 and the post of lieutenant governor of Illinois in 2014.

Vallas has consistently promoted educational reform and put measures into place to raise standards for students and boost accountability. In various government institutions, he has effectively balanced budgets and received recognition for his expertise in financial management.

In addition to his work in politics and education, Vallas has also had a position as a university professor where he instructed students in public administration and policy. He graduated from Illinois State University with a bachelor’s degree and the University of Illinois at Chicago with a master’s.

On June 10, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois, a Greek-American family welcomed Paul Vallas into the world. The politician withheld the identity of her parents. Both of his parents were Greek immigrants who settled in the US. On Chicago’s South Side, in the Roseland neighborhood, Vallas was reared.

He was raised in the Chicago suburbs and spent his adolescent years living in Palos Heights. He attended Moraine Valley Community College after Carl Sandburg High School, where he finished his secondary education.

He graduated from Western Illinois University with a bachelor’s in history and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a master’s in political science. As a Greek-American, Vallas has participated in several Greek cultural and community groups.

As the superintendent of schools in Chicago, Philadelphia, and New Orleans, he has also played an active part in political and educational leadership positions. From 1985 until 1990, Paul Vallas presided over the Illinois Economic and Fiscal Commission.

He then served as Mayor Richard M. Daley’s municipal budget director for Chicago from 1990 to 1993. Three kids, Gus, Mark, and Paul Jr. were born to Vallas and his wife Sharon Vallas. Sadly, Mark Vallas lost dead in 2018 as a result of opioid usage.
