On September 30, 1969, Silas was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the United States. For his elementary school years, he attended the Montgomery Country Day School in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania. Later, in 1987, he received his diploma from St. Paul’s School in Concord, New Hampshire. He also earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of California San Diego in 1995 after majoring in theatre and religion at Brown University in Rhode Island.
After earning his degree from Brown, Silas worked as an actor in a few small-scale plays in New York City. Later, he appeared frequently in episodes of TV shows including “24,” “Eli Stram,” “My Name Is Earl,” and many more.
One of Silas’ most noteworthy appearances was as James Hogan, a psychologically ill recurrent character on Cold Case. Similar to how Monroe was portrayed by Silas in NBC’s “Grimm,” Charles Patoshik was portrayed by Silas in FOX’s “Prison Break.”
