In a recent interview with HuffPost on February 16, Donny Osmond described his lengthy relationship with Michael Jackson. He stated during a conversation with Nancy Redd:
In the early 1970s, the Jacksons and the Osmonds dominated the music scene. Michael and Donny were in attendance. We were somewhat comparable.
They came from large households and were the seventh of nine children. Their mothers were born on the identical day. Donny Osmond recalls their final conversation before Michael’s 2009 death. It was taken a year prior to the artist’s death and reveals the most about how their lives have changed through time. Osmond declared:
“He said, ‘Please don’t tell anyone, but I rented one of those enormous custom tour buses and brought my children along.'”
We are currently hiding out in Phoenix. Because everything had gone wrong, I retreated from the media.
The actor also suggested Jackson that since the trip from his home to Utah would take nine hours, he could bring his children without anyone knowing. He highlighted that they can return to normalcy and resume swimming in the pool.
However, the trip never occurred, as Osmond explained:
“‘You know what, Donny? I think I’ll do that,’ he said.
“He has never accomplished this.”
The friendship between Michael Jackson and Donny Osmond
Donny Osmond is a contented man with five children, twelve grandchildren, and Debbie as his spouse. However, there was a moment in his life when he was suffering with multiple problems, and Michael Jackson helped him.
In an interview with Page Six, the 64-year-old revealed his relationship with Michael, stating they met in Toronto in 1971 while performing with their brothers. Donny recalls:
Throughout the concert, I recall Michael peeping out the curtain’s edge and eyeing me. It was a really stunning moment in retrospect, but at the time, all I could think was, “My friend is staring at me from stage right.”
It’s tremendously difficult to discuss… two teenagers who sell enormous volumes of CDs, have number-one singles, and are extremely talented recording artists, yet all they want is to be children.”
Osmond and Jackson maintained contact and even rearranged their schedules to meet. The former recalls watching The Dark Crystal with Jackson and insisting that he disguise himself with trench coats, wigs, and sunglasses.
Donny Osmond stated that they attempted to appear ordinary despite the fact that everyone knew them. While Michael’s new album Thriller was a major success, the White & Nerdy star’s career suffered a devastating setback in the 1980s. Donny was the first to notice and quickly inquired about Jackson’s possible return.
Despite the fact that the song was excellent, radio DJs refused to play Donny Osmond’s records. They continued to play it without revealing the performer’s identity until the song became a hit. Donny declared:
“Losing my job was the greatest thing that has ever happened to me.” And it’s strange to hear myself say this given that the 1980s were the darkest decade of my life due to my unemployment.
