Dr. Elizabeth Grammer- Biography
Dr. Elizabeth Grammer is a veterinarian most known for her roles in the National Geographic documentary/reality television series “The Incredible Dr. Pol,” which debuted in 2011. The show follows veterinarian Jan Pol, his family, and his staff as they face various veterinarian issues in Weidman, Michigan’s farm region. From 2016 to 2018, Dr. Grammer acted as Staff Veterinarian in this TV series documentary.
Doctor Elizabeth Grammer earned her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia and began working as a veterinarian at the Southside Animal Hospital shortly after. Her academic credentials aided her speedy ascent up the success ladder, and she became renowned as one of the most experienced and popular veterinarians who worked with Dr. Jan Pol. Needless to say, her absence from the event was noticed heavily, and fans became concerned and began asking questions.
Despite the fact that the National Geographic Wild show was not without controversy and legal challenges, the case of Dr. Elizabeth Grammer is the most alarming and serious that has occurred. On December 25, 2016, the police received a phone call from Elizabeth and her husband, Robert Grammer. According to accounts, Dr. Elizabeth’s husband was severely intoxicated on that fateful day.
When he returned home late at night, he asked for medication, and Dr. Elizabeth decided to give him half a milliliter of butorphanol – also known as Stadol, it’s a medication that is classified as an opioid analgesic similar to morphine and is usually given to women who are in labor, or in cases of severe migraine, but it’s also used for pain relief in large animals such as horses. Robert Grammer then proceeded to inject the medication on his own and soon became comatose. He was rushed to Monroe County Hospital, but physicians quickly recognized they couldn’t assist him, so he was transferred to Macon Medical Center and placed on life support.
Police arrived at the Grammers’ house a few days later to discover Dr. Elizabeth lifeless and lying on the couch. Dr. Elizabeth had an IV in her arm and had attempted suicide, according to Deputy Cynthia Patten. Dr. Elizabeth was rushed to the hospital, where doctors were able to save her life. She was then transported to a psychiatric facility in Macon.
Unfortunately, on December 30th, Robert Grammer was taken off life support and died on the same day. Since then, the local District Attorney in Georgia has been conducting an ongoing investigation into Robert’s death, Elizabeth’s suicide attempt, and prescription misuse. Dr. Grammer has since informed authorities that she had no idea her husband intended to use the prescription on himself and that providing him the drug was inappropriate.
Since then, Dr. Elizabeth Grammer has, predictably, opted to leave the TV show and step away from the spotlight.
