Gerald Onuoha was born in Huntsville, Alabama, on October 25, 1984. His mother, Victoria Watkins Richardson, sister, Geralyn Smith, and two brothers, U Geraldson Onuoha and Gerron Scissor, make up his Nigerian-American family.
Geralyn, her husband, and their children reside in their hometown. She teaches kindergarten there. Geraldson, their brother, studied chemistry and microbiology at Alabama A&M University and received his degree there. The youngest, Gerron, played basketball in college.
Education
S.R. Butler High School was attended by Gerald Onuoha and his siblings. In the tenth grade, Onuoha had left school, but he subsequently returned.
He went to Tennessee State University at that time to take part in a summer program with a cousin. From 2003 to 2008, he pursued a degree in physics and astronomy there. He was interested in astrophysics at the time, but after some research, he realized it was not the right vocation for him.
His interest in medicine and his decision to make it his career were sparked by a medical and biophysical internship at the University of Chicago. Onuoha subsequently enrolled at Meharry Medical College, where he earned his MD in 2014. At Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, he later completed his MS.

Dr. Gerald Onuoha practices internal medicine in Nashville at the moment. From 2015 to 2019, he worked for Nashville General Hospital. Currently, he works for HCA Healthcare.
In addition, he founded Project Dream, which encourages and supports inner-city children to pursue careers in medicine. His desire to engage with the Nashville neighborhood inspired him to create the organization.
