Dr. Michael Heiser, a well-known Old Testament researcher, and novelist, died of stage 4 pancreatic cancer on February 20. His official Twitter account paid tribute to him as well, posting a photo with the caption:
“Dr. Michael S. Heiser, our beloved sibling, teacher, and companion, has passed away – 02/20/23 @ 3:45pm EDT.”
He wrote a number of works, some of which drew on his knowledge of scriptural spiritual themes and the essence of spiritual subjects.

Michael S. Heiser was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2020. He was admitted to the hospital last month, and his wife, Drenna Heiser, shared an update on his condition on Facebook. Drenna noticed changes in Heiser’s health after Christmas, including changes in his vitality, endurance, hunger, and appearance. According to the report, his health deteriorated on New Year’s Eve, and he was rushed to the ER under the impression that he was exhausted. Drenna revealed what the ED doctor said in her letter:
“Mike had roughly 4 pints of blood in his body when he should have 12-14 points for a guy his height, according to the ED doctor. This was, to say the least, unexpected. A blood transfusion has been ordered. He received three doses on Sunday and felt so much better almost immediately!”
Michael needed two more units of blood due to a low hemoglobin level. Doctors were attempting to determine the cause of the blood loss and restore the hemoglobin, she said. Drenna went on to say that he is in good health:
“Our prayer wishes are for steady blood counts, the identification of the cause of blood loss, an improvement in hunger and vitality, and medical discharge in time for his meetings at Mayo Clinic on Thursday. We love you all and appreciate all of your prayers, texts, thoughts, support, and encouragement since Mike’s diagnosis.”
Michael revealed on Facebook on January 22, 2023, that his cancer was in its final stages and that it had a significant impact on his upper gastrointestinal and abdominal regions, resulting in significant hemorrhaging. He stated that there was no cure and that during his most recent endoscopic, specialists attempted to cauterize the hemorrhage spots in order to slow the bleeding.

Dr. Michael Heiser was born on February 14, 1963, and received his BA in Classical History from the University of Pennsylvania. He later earned his BA and Ph.D. in Hebrew Scriptures and Arabic Languages from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Dr. Michael Heiser was well-known for his works and held several prominent positions, including scholar-in-residence at Faithlife Corporation, Executive Head of the School of Ministry at Florida’s Jacksonville Church, and lecturer at Liberty University. He later launched The Bare Bible podcast and appeared in shows like Pieces of Truth and The Invisible World.
