Drummer Nandi Bushell Has Been Selected To Appear In The Rebel Girls Series

Nandi Bushell

A twelve-year-old girl is featured in a new children’s book with music icons Dolly Parton and Bjork. Nandi Bushell, a drumming prodigy from Ipswich, Suffolk, has performed with the Foo Fighters, released her own song, and garnered a multitude of celebrity followers.

She features in the most recent installment of the Rebel Girls series, which was released around International Women’s Day week.

Nandi stated,

“I was ecstatic, as I always read the books.”

She learned three months ago that she would be featured on Rebel Girls Rock with folk legend Joni Mitchell, K-Pop trio Black Pink, and Grammy winner Lizzo.

The book was released on Thursday and features a foreword by rock star Joan Jett, which makes Nandi quite proud.

The schoolgirl from South Africa who relocated to Ipswich at the age of two drew the attention of publishers due to her zeal, youth, and list of significant musical accomplishments.

Nandi performed at Wembley last September for the Foo Fighters memorial concert honoring their late drummer Taylor Hawkins.

She utilized the drumsticks given to her by Hawkins when she performed with the band in Los Angeles in 2021.

Nandi was invited to perform with the band after challenging lead singer Dave Grohl to a drum duel, which prompted him to write her a song.

She performed alongside Lenny Kravitz four years ago and has also been in Cinderella and the US chat program Ellen.

Last year, Nandi also released The Shadows, a song she wrote and dedicated to her father John.

The book has encouraged the multi-instrumentalist with about 2.5 million social media followers to consider the women who have inspired her.

Nandi stated,

“I admire Sheila E because she was such an encouragement to other women in a male-dominated field.”

“I also look up to the Brazilian skateboarder Rayssa Leal.

“She is a fantastic skateboarder, as well as a kind and inspiring person.”

Her own advice to anyone who wants to follow in her footsteps in music was to “practice, practice, practice.”

Nandi Bushell added,

“You can do anything you set your mind to if you have fun and enjoy what you’re doing.”

The Rebel Girls series, which debuted in 2016 and has sold 8.5 million copies globally, strives to show girls true stories of female triumph and resiliency.

Jes Wolfe, CEO of Rebel Girls, stated that Nandi’s narrative was chosen for the book because she is “confident, passionate, strong, and truly herself.”

“She relentlessly pursues her passion for music.

“At the age of 12, she plays various instruments, is a songwriter and vocalist, and has performed in the UK’s largest arenas.”

We could not conceive Rebel Girls Rock without Nandi, as she is a role model for all females.
