Pop artist Stromae has canceled a run of European tour dates, citing a desire to prioritize his health. The Belgian singer announced in a statement that he was canceling all performances through the end of May, adding,
“It saddens me, but I must accept my limitations.”
He was scheduled to perform in nine European cities. His 2010 song, Alors On Danse, was well-known.
After a seven-year sabbatical, Stromae, whose real name is Paul van Haver, resumed performing in 2022.
The 38-year-old has already canceled six concerts in the past two weeks due to his poor health but has not provided a particular medical explanation.
The last time he performed was in 2015 when he canceled an African tour. Later, he explained that this was due to fatigue and the adverse effects of the anti-malaria medication he had taken, telling the Guardian last year, “It was a truly terrible story.”
Last year’s return album, Multitude, has the song L’Enfer – “Hell” – in which Stromae discusses his mental condition.
Amsterdam, London, Rome, Lyon, and Berlin were among his scheduled stops on the 2023 Multitude tour till the end of May.
After the end of May, he still has tour dates scheduled, including his hometown of Brussels, Lille, and Paris.
Tuesday he said on social media,
“I have realized that my current physical condition does not permit me to travel and meet all of you at this time.”
“I sadly share with you this news that saddens me, but I must acknowledge my limitations.”
To restart performing, I must take the time to recover while surrounded by my family.
He expressed his desire to provide “more great news very soon.”
“I look forward to seeing you all and continuing this trip with the teams that have supported me throughout these years.”
Stromae was born in Brussels to a Belgian mother and a Rwandan father who was murdered during the Rwandan genocide in 1994.
His 2010 single Alors On Danse topped the charts in 19 countries, and he is considered one of the most popular French-speaking performers.
