Duff McKagan, a former member of Guns N’ Roses, has been married to his wife, Susan Holmes, for over two decades. The couple has two daughters together.
McKagan and his wife have discussed their relationship on numerous occasions. In many cases, the couple has revealed why their marriage has lasted so long.
One of the main reasons, as both of them have stated, is trust.
When asked how he stayed faithful to Holmes while on tour and avoided the temptations of groupies, McKagan said he could never do that to his wife.
“To be honest, it never crosses my mind. “I could never do that to my wife, for starters,” he admitted.
“And it’s not even a case where I have to consider it. It just doesn’t even cross my mind.”
Holmes has also spoken out on the subject, stating that she and McKagan have a great deal of trust and respect for one another.
She went on to say that any relationship required a lot of effort. “Like any relationship, you must continue to invest in it and not rest on your laurels.”

McKagan met Holmes for the first time on a blind date in 1996, set up by a friend.
Initially, Holmes was hesitant to pursue her relationship with McKagan, one of the biggest rock stars of his generation.
She also mentioned that she had asked him about picking him up at his house rather than his, because she wasn’t sure if she wanted him to have her address.
“It’s funny looking back because he’s far from that,” she said of her first impressions of him. “He’s the epitome of a gentleman.”

In August 1997, McKagan and Holmes welcomed their first child together, daughter Grace “Grave” Elizabeth, a year into their relationship.
Two years later, on August 28, 1999, the couple married.
Their family of three grew by one when Holmes gave birth to daughter Mae Marie in July 2020.
Grace, their elder daughter, is following in McKagan’s footsteps. Several of her songs and music videos, including ‘One You Love,’ ‘Baby That’s Rock N Roll,’ and ‘So Hyper,’ have been uploaded to her YouTube channel.
In addition to pursuing a music career, McKagan revealed in November 2021 that Grace was studying to become a CorePower Yoga instructor.
Mae, their daughter, is a full-time student and part-time model.
Maintaining the Romance
McKagan and Holmes have both spoken out about how they maintain their relationship.
Aside from genuine trust and respect, Holmes revealed that it was critical to give each other space.
“Of course, we like each other’s company,” she explained. “But he has to go on tour, and I’m working on my own projects.”
Another factor that Holmes believed aided their relationship was the opportunity to travel extensively. She stated that a change of scenery is beneficial in a relationship and helps to keep the romance alive.
