Dwight McNeil, 24, is the elder son of former Everton soccer player Matty McNeil. Matty is currently working as an academy coach for a national league club. The talented footballer spent his youth career at Manchester United before joining Burnley. He played 134 appearances for Burnley before joining Everton for £20 million in 2022.
McNeil has thrived at Everton after reconciling with his former manager, Sean Dyche. He has played an important role in moving the club out of the relegation zone, and he recently scored a great goal against Newcastle United in the Toffees’ 3-0 triumph.

Everton winger Dwight McNeil was born and raised in Rochdale, England. The 24-year-old footballer comes from a mixed-race family. Previously, Dwight was compelled to discuss his ethnicity in public because former English soccer star Darren Bent made a factually incorrect statement.
A terrible occurrence occurred at the Etihad Stadium in June 2020, while McNeil was a Burnley FC player. An aircraft hovered above the stadium, bearing the message “White Lives Matter Burnley!” Bent commented on X (formerly Twitter): “Strange considering Burnley have NO black players in their squad at all.”
He was immediately chastised, with McNeil being the first to respond. McNeil stated that, as a Bame player, Darren’s statements were disrespectful, especially to his black father, Matty. The former Burnley player stated that his father had a significant influence on him and helped shape him into the guy he is today.

Dwight McNeil’s parents, Matty and Tracy McNeil, have remained anonymous. Matty used to play soccer, but he never got as far as his son. Dwight’s father, Matty McNeil, began his soccer career as a journeyman with Altrincham in 1996. He played for a number of clubs, including Macclesfield Town, for whom he faced Chelsea in the FA Cup third round in 2006-07.
The older McNeil left Chester at the end of the 2011-12 season. During his 15-year career, McNeil made 405 appearances for 10 teams and scored 126 goals, primarily as a striker. Matty is now an academy coach with National League club Oldham Athletic. Previously, the father-son duo had conducted joint interviews for The Athletic, once during the height of COVID and again while Dwight was a member of the English U-21 team.
During the chat, the McNeils revealed that they occasionally repeat games or that Matty would offer his child short snippets to assist him in improving his skills. When asked if he is worried about his son’s games, Matty replied, “Not really.” Tracy, on the other hand, experienced the opposite response.
“I get nervous,” Tracy, a mother of three, said, “especially when it’s a big game.” “I felt like I was going to throw up when we got off the highway.” Dwight is the oldest child of Matty and Tracy, with two younger siblings, Baillie and Chiara. Matty never forced his son to follow in his footsteps, but Dwight gradually found his place in what has now become a family tradition.
