Ed Sheeran has revealed that his wife, Cherry Seaborn, was diagnosed with a tumor during the pregnancy of their second child.
The British singer-songwriter said in a diary entry photographed by Annie Liebowitz and posted to Sheeran’s Twitter on Wednesday that a series of events at the beginning of last year changed his life, mental health, and the way he views music and art. Cherry, Ed Sheeran’s wife, was diagnosed with a tumor while pregnant with their second child.
“Within a month, my pregnant wife was told she had a tumor, with no treatment options until after the birth.” “When my best friend, Jamal, died unexpectedly, I found myself in court defending my integrity and career as a songwriter,” Sheeran wrote.
Jamal Edwards, a music entrepreneur, died last February at the age of 31. His last Instagram post was a birthday message to Sheeran, his “brother.” Last year, Sheeran’s hit song “Shape of You” landed him in court after he was accused of plagiarizing grime artist Sami Switch’s song “Oh Why.” He won the case in April 2022.
“I was in a downward spiral of fear, depression, and anxiety,” continued the artist. “I felt like I was drowning, with my head below the surface, searching for air but not being able to break through.”
He went on to say that he had spent a decade “trying to sculpt the perfect acoustic album,” But in a week, he had replaced all of that work with his “deepest, darkest thoughts.”
Sheeran has stated that his new album, “Subtract,” which is set to be released on May 5, is “opening the trapdoor into my soul.”
“I’m simply putting out something honest and true to where I am in my adult life,” he added. “For the first time, I’m not attempting to create an album that people will enjoy.”
In May, he announced the birth of his second daughter on Instagram, writing that he and Seaborn were “so in love with her, and over the moon to be a family of four.”
He has not spoken further about his wife’s condition.
