Eddie Izzard: Not So Interested In Getting Herself A Wife

Eddie Izzard

Eddie Izzard may have unintentionally stormed headlines in late 2020 for her pronoun declaration, but she’d come out in 1985.

She’d come out as a transgender person again in 2017, but it all went unnoticed.

Izzard has also been referred to as a “straight transvestite” and a “lesbian trapped in a man’s body.”

With all of that hype, it’s difficult not to wonder about the standup comic/actor/campaigner/endurance runner’s romantic status.

As with most celebrities who have crossed a certain threshold, the main question is: “Is Eddie Izzard married?”

The shortest answer is, of course, no! When it comes to her relationships, however, there is more to discuss.

Relationship Advice from Eddie Izzard

During an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, the actress recalled how her first kiss was both fun and strange. She was nine years old at the time.

“I was straight want to be lesbian,” she explained.

In the same conversation, she confirmed that she was always interested in having a romantic relationship but was slow to start one.

However, there are only so many roles that one person can play.

Being transgender and out for 33 years, as well as the politics, comedy, and marathon running that I enjoy, make it difficult to have a relationship.

Izzard was also conscious of the type of people she wanted to be in a relationship with, but there was one snag.

“Those I’d want to be in a relationship with are also competent people who are busy doing their own thing,” she admitted to the publication.

That’s not to say Izzard has never had a girlfriend.

She was in a long-term relationship with Sarah Townsend, a British singer, director, and producer. In 1989, they met at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Believe Me: A Memoir of Love, Death, and Jazz Chickens, Izzard’s autobiography, which was released in 2020, details many of her relationships over the years.

Eddie Izzard is unlikely to marry

But it appears that the answer to the question “Is Eddie Izzard married?” will always be no.

“I don’t believe in marriage,” Izzard admitted bluntly, “it’s either a governmental rubber stamp or a religious thing.”
If one were to use that as an excuse to throw a party, Izzard would be perfect.

I’m not one to pass judgment.

She would prefer a “strong relationship.”

She might not find a wife, but she was certain she would have children someday.

In yet another interview, this time with The Guardian, the comic claimed that his relationships with her were difficult.

“Relationships with me are difficult,” she admitted. “To go out with me, you have to be a woman who is very confident in your sexuality.”

She admitted that she hadn’t had many relationships in her adult life as a result of her career and lifestyle choices.

Izzard spent most of his time on the road, working. Still, the fact remained that she was content with her own company.

She wouldn’t mind being in a relationship with someone, but she also wouldn’t mind not being in one.
