The Pocahontas Family Tree of Edward Norton
Pocahontas was revealed to be Norton’s 12th great-grandmother in the year 2023 during his appearance on the PBS program “Finding Your Roots.”
Edward’s family had long had suspicions that he might be related to Pocahontas and her husband, John Rolfe; yet, the results made him understand what a small part of the human story he was.
She married tobacco plantation owner John Rolfe in April 1614 when she was around 17 or 18, and their son Thomas Rolfe was born in January 1615.
According to Yahoo, Pocahontas was presented to English society as the best illustration of the “civilized savage” in London in 1616 to solicit investment in the Jamestown outpost.
Not to mention that Pocahontas passed away in 1617 at Gravesend due to unknown causes.
She was buried in Gravesend, England’s St. George’s Church. The church was rebuilt after a fire destroyed it, therefore the precise location of her tomb is uncertain.
Pocahontas was a famous person who belonged to the Powhatan tribe and was connected to the Jamestown colonial settlement in Virginia.
She was a member of the Powhatan tribe, which encompassed the Tidewater region of Virginia in its federation of tributary tribes.
