Real-life Pocahontas is revealed to be actor Edward Norton 12th great-grandmother. He was able to confirm a long-held family rumor thanks to “Finding Your Roots.”

Norton appeared on the PBS show ‘Finding Your Roots’ in 2023, when it was revealed that Pocahontas was his 12th great-grandmother.
The results made Edward understand how insignificant he was in the grand scheme of things; his family had long assumed he was related to Pocahontas and her husband, John Rolfe.
In April 1614, at the age of 17 or 18, she married tobacco planter John Rolfe, and their son Thomas Rolfe was born in January 1615.

She was laid to rest at Gravesend, England, at St. George’s Church. Due to the church’s rebuilding following a fire that destroyed it, the exact location of her grave is uncertain.
Pocahontas was a member of the Powhatan tribe and a well-known figure in Virginia due to her link to the Jamestown colonial settlement.
She was the daughter of the Powhatan, a confederation of tributary tribes that comprised the Tidewater region of Virginia.
Similarly, Norton expressed discomfort when he found that his ancestors had a slave family, adding, “The short answer is these things are uncomfortable & you should be uncomfortable with them.”
