He began his career in the diamond and gold markets in the early 1980s. At the age of 23, he founded the gold trading corporation Autram Aurum, which generated $6 million in less than 18 months. He established the first mechanized alluvial gold extraction factory in the Amazon, which founded the EBX Group.
Between 1980 and 2000, he served as the chief executive officer of TVX Gold and supervised eight gold mines in Canada and Brazil and one silver mine in Chile. During this period, he amassed $20 billion in earnings.
