At the age of eight, she, her two sisters, and their mother came to the United States on a 37-day freight ship voyage.
Her father had moved to New York on a scholarship three years ago. Not to mention Ruth was the matriarch of a charitable Chinese-American family. Similarly, her father, James, is the founder of the Foremost Group. Her mother died in 2007 after a seven-year battle with cancer.
