Eliah Drinkwitz, born in Oklahoma, is of Caucasian heritage. But the football coach grew up in Alma, Arkansas. Drinkwitz comes from a football family, with his father, Jerry, a former all-conference running back at Luther College.
Jerry coached high school basketball before moving with his family to Arkansas. Drinkwitz grew up dreaming of becoming a lawyer and enjoyed debating and discussing. However, his mother, Susie, would occasionally unearth papers covered in X’s, O’s, and arrows.

Jerry and Susie earned enough to sustain their children, and financial help was important to their college education. Jerry and Susie launched a T-shirt printing business out of their garage. Drinkwitz began coaching at Alma High School in 2005 and gradually rose up the ranks. Last year, Drinkwitz renewed his contract with the Tigers, extending his time as head coach until 2027. His pay also increased, reaching $6 million.
