On the final UK stop of his farewell tour, Sir Elton John will perform as the festival’s headlining act next summer. On Sunday, June 25, the star will front the bill on the Pyramid Stage and has promised a grand exit.
Announcing the show, he remarked, “There is no more fitting way to bid goodbye to my British admirers.”
“I can’t wait to get into the mood of the world’s biggest event. It’s going to be a very emotional experience.
More than five years after Sir Elton announced his 350-date Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, the concert will take place.
The 75-year-young old’s family would have had more time to themselves if it had ended in 2021, but several dates had to be rescheduled because of the Covid epidemic and a hip injury the singer had in an accident.
He recently finished the US part of the tour with a three-night stay at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium, where in 1975 he solidified his celebrity status with two legendary performances while decked out in a sequined Dodgers baseball uniform.
At his final US show, which featured hits like Rocket Man, Tiny Dancer, Your Song, and Philadelphia Freedom, that kit reappeared.
Star guests Brandi Carlile, Kiki Dee, and Dua Lipa also performed with him. They dueted on the Pnau remix of Cold Heart, the song that introduced Sir Elton to a new audience last year.
Similar surprises will undoubtedly be included in his Glastonbury performance.
On Thursday, the celebrity posted an Instagram picture with the remark, “One final date to announce… the Rocket Man is incoming.”
A rocket ship could be seen in the sky above the Pyramid stage at about the same time on the BBC’s Glastonbury Livestream.
The one and only Elton John will be headlining the Pyramid Stage on the Sunday night of next year, the festival’s organizer Emily Eavis announced on Friday morning. “It gives me enormous pleasure to let you know that the one and only Elton John will be making his first-ever Glastonbury appearance,” she said.
We’ll be wrapping off the Festival and celebrating this monumental event in both of our histories with the mother of all send-offs because this will be Elton John’s final performance in the UK of his entire career.
The musician continued,
“I couldn’t be more thrilled” to perform at Worthy Farm.
On his radio program, he remarked,
“I talk to new artists every week, and Glastonbury is often considered as a critical point in establishing their careers.”
“I’ve long liked the festival’s sincere, enthusiastic support for the best up-and-coming talent.”
The concert will take place towards the conclusion of Sir Elton John’s farewell tour’s UK leg, which begins in Liverpool in March.
He only has seven more European tour dates after Glastonbury before calling it quits.
The musician, who previously told the BBC in 2018 that his “dream thing” would be a theatrical residency where he could play lesser-known songs like Amoreena and Original Sin in place of hits like I’m Still Standing and Candle In The Wind, hasn’t entirely ruled out the possibility of one-off concert dates in the future.
Even though some of these songs are fantastic and I greatly appreciate them, he remarked, “I’ve performed them approximately 5,000 times, and I’ve sung them enough.”
The first headliner at next year’s Glastonbury festival, for which tickets have already sold out, is Sir Elton.
Guns N’ Roses, Taylor Swift, and Arctic Monkeys are a few other rumored performers.
