A police department that investigated reality television participant Stephen Bear has stated that it will prosecute anyone who commits violence against women.
Assistant Chief Constable Rachel Nolan, who is in charge of preventing violence against women and girls for Essex Police, stated,
“We do listen.”
Stephen Bear was sentenced to 21 months in prison for distributing a private film of him and his ex-partner having sexual relations.
Georgia Harrison stated that since 2020, she had been “through hell.”
The 33-year-old had released to OnlyFans CCTV footage of himself with Love Island actress Georgia Harrison.
Ms. Harrison told reporters outside Chelmsford Crown Court,
“What I’ve been through sends a strong message that the police and courts take this issue extremely seriously.”
In December, Bear was found guilty of voyeurism and the dissemination of private sexual images and films.
For five years, he is prohibited from contacting Ms. Harrison, who has been on The Only Way Is Essex, and Olivia Meets Her Mate.
In addition, he was compelled to sign the sexual offender registry and would be subject to notification obligations for a period of ten years.
ACC Nolan commended Ms. Harrison’s outspokenness.
“She reported her concerns to police, and she has stated openly from the beginning that she was supported, that we listened to her, that we didn’t make her feel ashamed, and that we worked with her to ensure she received the right support.
Our victims have affirmed that we listen and do everything possible to investigate occurrences and bring offenders to justice.
She stated that the inquiry into the Bear case “leave no stone unturned” and that his famous status did not affect his treatment.
“Anybody who commits violence against women and girls in Essex will be found and brought to justice.”
ACC Nolan said: “Women and girls have the same right as everyone else in society to go about their daily lives, go out at night, and run in the dark without fear or concern.
“How can other members of society, particularly men and those in positions of authority, security personnel, and passengers on public transportation, support women and denounce inappropriate behavior? How can they be bystander who recognizes that someone is making someone feel uncomfortable?
If criminal, call it out and report it.
She stated that Ms. Harrison did not give permission for footage of her to be distributed and that Bear’s behavior was “simply horrifying.”
“Everyone who views, posts, or shares this type of video online should think about their actions, as they are perpetrators of these photographs being spread without consent, resulting in a victim.
I would advise social media businesses to consider their permissiveness and their role.
Ms. Nolan hoped that victims would consider Ms. Harrison’s experience and take action.
