Ettore Messina began his coaching career in 1989 with Virtus Bologna, where he won two EuroLeague Championships in 1997-98 and 2000-01, as well as two Italian Cups in 1999, 2001, and 2002. Similarly, he joined Benetton Treviso for three years, winning three Italian Cups and reaching the EuroLeague final, which he lost.
