Without the encouragement of her adoptive parents, Long wouldn’t be competing in the Paralympics. Jessica told The Siberian Times, “My parents helped me become who I am today. “I can exercise by riding my bike and living a normal life like everyone else.”

Tatiana Olegovna Kirillova, the daughter of Natalia and Oleg Valtyshev, was born Jessica Long on February 29, 1992, in Bratsk, Russia. Fibular hemimelia, a disease marked by undeveloped bones below the knee, caused Long to be born prematurely.
The hospital staff doctors forced Natalia and Oleg to give up Jessica. According to the physicians, the underprivileged teenagers couldn’t care for the disabled youngster. Natalia admitted to being alone in Siberia without her parents on Russian television.
“If I had kidnapped her, where would I go? Doctors advised me to leave her behind and claimed that I was powerless to save her. I gave her the name Tatiana in honor of my older sister.
Despite being hard, the choice was justified
Naturally, I didn’t want to leave her in the hospital, but we were forced to due to the situation, Natalia continued. They wanted to return for Tatiana as soon as their financial position improved.
However, Beth and Steve Long adopted her and another Russian kid from the orphanage before that could happen. To assist Jessica as soon as possible, Beth and Steve set out. Corey said:
“We mistook her for an orphan. She also has significant leg issues. To resolve this issue, we sought the advice of numerous experts. We genuinely wanted to do whatever we could to assist her.
Natalia believes that looking back, adoption was Jessica’s best course of action. Jessica acknowledged that she wouldn’t be the champion she is now without Beth and Steve when she said on Russian television that she couldn’t have done what they did for Long. She uttered:
“My father supports me and has always done so, even when I first started playing athletics when it was challenging for me. It’s because of my parents that I am who I am today.

Long visited her birthplace Siberia to meet her relatives after learning that she has in there. Answered, “I’m not mad at her [Natalia].
I simply wish to meet her. I believe we share a lot of traits. You know what, when the time comes for me to start a family and have children, I want to name my daughter Natalia after my Russian mother, who gave birth to me.
Oleg and Natalia were married and had three kids together. Nastya, Jessica’s sister, also had a disability, but Natalie and Oleg insisted on keeping a second child. When Long finally met her biological parents and siblings, she was unable to contain her joy. The Siberian Times quoted Jessica as saying:
“I’m pleased I came. Nothing has disappointed me. When I first met my sister Nastya, I was struck by how similar we were. I’m only one year younger than Nastya. I presented her with a classy bracelet. It goes well with her hair. I also gave my father a Russian-language Bible and my mother jewelry.
In Siberia, one Russian family will be rooting for Jessica as she lines up for the United States in Tokyo. Following her Olympic victory in London, Jessica tweeted “Thank you for all the love and support from Russia.”
