Jurnee Smollett began her acting career as a young performer on the television shows On Your Own and Full House. The 10-year-old received praise from the critics and a Critic’s Choice Award for portraying Eve in Eve’s Bayou. Jurnee was born on October 1st, 1986 in New York City to an African-American mother and a Jewish father. Jazz, one sister, and Jussie, Jojo, Jake, and Jacqui, four brothers, were all around when she was growing up.

Sadly, the disease claimed the life of the father of the Smollett family in early January 2015. His six successful children and his role as a good husband to Janet were recognized by the family.
