The gifted performer, who passed away in 2017 at the age of 67, was the husband of Kay Lenz, Meryl Tanz, and Sue Shifrin at different stages in his life, and they each led to him having unique experiences, including children.
Marriage With Kay Lenz
In 1977, David wed his first wife, Kay. Kay, a native of Los Angeles, California, is widely recognized as an Emmy Award-winning actress who has acted in numerous television programs and films, including Breezy, House, Midnight Caller, The Andy Griffith Show, and Reasonable Doubts, among others.
She began dating David, which led to the actor’s first marriage. She said that after their elopement, she received numerous threats from her new husband’s followers and had to hire celebrity bodyguard Tommy Peacock to protect herself.
“I wasn’t used to that celebrity lifestyle… Our elopement made the national news. She told People that she received correspondence from women informing her that they had three of his children. The couple ultimately divorced in 1983, and as of 2023, she has not remarried and has no children.
Marriage with Meryl Tanz
In 1984, David wed his second wife, Meryl. A year after he divorced Kay, they met and exchanged vows. At the time of their meeting, she was his partner in a horse breeding and racing business.
In a podcast interview, Meryl, a native of South Africa, detailed their first encounter and date, which resulted in instant love, and revealed he asked her to dance and sang to her.
According to the Los Angeles Times, their relationship ended in 1988, and Meryl went on to own a lavender farm called Clairmont Farms in Los Olivos, California. They did not have any children together.
Marriage With Sue Shifrin
In 1991, David wed his third and final wife, Sue, a composer, and actress. She is most known for her roles in the films Superman, The Pirate Movie, and Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure.
Sue was born in Miami, Florida. She has also composed music videos for prominent performers such as Meat Loaf, Tina Turner, and Toni Basil.
When Sue was 41, David and Sue welcomed their son Beau Devin Cassidy the same year they were married. The couple subsequently separated in 2014 and divorced in 2016.
