Sophia Loren was a star in Hollywood in the 1950s and 1960s despite having a modest upbringing. She made her acting debut in the 1953 picture Aida, and she co-starred with Cary Grant in The Pride and the Passion and Houseboat in 1957 and 1958, respectively.
Then came the Two Women of the 1960s. The movie showed that Loren was not just one of the most attractive women in Hollywood, but also one of the most talented. She portrayed a mother in the film who was battling to support her 12-year-old daughter in war-torn Italy.
She made history by becoming the first artist to get an Oscar for a role in a film that was not their native tongue.

After an 11-year sabbatical, Loren made a comeback to the big screen in 2020 with the Netflix thriller The Life Ahead. Her son Edoardo Ponti, who is married to Sasha Alexander, directed the film.
In the role of Madame Rosa, played by Loren, a Jewish Holocaust survivor who now looks after the kids of dead sex workers she used to deal with, The 12-year-old Senegalese orphan who stole Rosa’s bag, Ibrahima Gueye’s Momo, is the next person she makes an enduring bond with.
She discussed her return and the reasons behind her slowdown in an interview with the New York Times.
I simply stopped working, so I didn’t merely slow down a little. I wanted to learn more about my family since I frequently lived at the studio, not because I didn’t love my job, the actress explained.
She decided to tell herself she could work later and was delighted to be able to watch her children mature, get married, and start their own families.

The actress discussed her ten-year hiatus and said it wasn’t because she didn’t receive any offers, but rather because none of them motivated or challenged her.
Ten years later, she was finally drawn to Madame Rosa, a figure who communicated “messages of tolerance, love, and inclusion.”
The actress, who calls herself a perfectionist, implied that working with her kid gave her the acting experience she was seeking. “He, like myself, is a perfectionist. Edoardo makes me feel secure. He also never gives up as long as I give it all I’ve got. He understands just which buttons to press to elicit a response from me,” the actress claimed.
She stated that she knew her performance was what it needed to be when her kid told her “this is it” following the completion of a scene.
When asked if she had any immediate plans to stop performing, Loren made sure to give a categorical “No!” by saying, “If I like acting, why should I stop?”
