Longtime NFL quarterback John Hadl, who was selected to the All-Pro team and appeared in six Pro Bowls, passed away on Wednesday. Hadl had previously played for his local Kansas Jayhawks before turning pro. He was 82.
John Hadl, a quarterback for the San Diego Chargers, played a significant role in setting up the team for success before Dan Fouts helped make the team famous in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
He made a name for himself as one of the top quarterbacks in the previous American Football League. After the league disbanded and joined with the National Football League, he played wonderfully.
Hadl led an outstanding vertical game in the pass-happy AFL, hitting deep passes to receivers like Lance Alworth and Gary Garrison. Hadl not only played quarterback but also punted.

The University released a statement announcing Hadl’s passing and naming his family. After playing, Hadl came back to the school to work as a coach and fundraiser. The explanation was omitted.
According to Travis Goff, the Jayhawks’ director of athletics, John Hadl permanently altered Kansas football.
Hadl was hailed as a once-in-a-lifetime Jayhawk student-athlete, coach, mentor, and prolific fundraiser who forged strong ties with a great number of individuals. He was also referred to as the pinnacle of K.U.
John had altered their University’s athletic program, he said, and his legacy would last forever. The Hadl family, their wife Diana, and their heartfelt prayers were sent.
Family History of John Hadl: Where Did He Grow Up?
John Willard Hadl was born on February 15, 1940, in Lawrence, Kansas, one of the biggest cities in the state. He was born to his parents, Jess Hadl and Judy McNish Hadl.
He was a standout at Lawrence High School where his career began before returning to Lawrence to play for the University of Kansas.
After high school, football players usually played various positions. Hadl would be successful in doing so, and his exceptional work ethic catapulted him into the Jayhawk record books.
At the time, first-year students were not allowed to play in varsity athletics, but after Hadl started his sophomore Campaign in 1959, his fame began to spread.
He started out as a halfback but experimented with different positions that year, including quarterback, punter, punt returner, defensive back, and others.
When playing for Florida State University, even Deion Sanders, the football player rated as the most versatile of the 1990s, was unable to equal that degree of variety.

Diana, who was a Texas native, was John’s wife. Their two kids are John and Jackie.
His wife and kids’ personal information is not readily available. John’s demise is presently being mourned by Diana and their children.
Hadl excelled in two sports at Lawrence High School, a short distance from the campus of the University of Kansas, but he earned his reputation playing football for the Jayhawks.
He established the record for the longest punt at 94 yards as a sophomore, led the NCAA in punting, and held the record for the biggest interception return at 98 yards until 2007.
